Google Workspace for Education has become the key learning management system in many schools. The context of this needs assessment will be Old Town Elementary School in Round Rock ISD, where Google Educator Level 1 certification is required. However, given the prior two years with COVID, we have many educators who have not been trained, whose certifications have lapsed, or are struggling with specific skills.
The target audience for the needs assessment is K-5 educators, including para-educators, teachers, specials teachers, and administration at Old Town Elementary School. Old Town Elementary has a wide range of ages and teaching experience, including first-year teachers and teachers with more than 30 years of experience. Technology experience, ranging from novices to technology leaders.
After analyzing the data, we will identify which professional development and technology tools are needed to achieve the goal of what other Google certifications are necessary to further teach online skills and student learning. The needs assessment will allow us to gather data on teachers' current skills utilizing Google Workspace for Education and comfortability with Digital Citizenship and Distance Learning. Therefore, after giving this survey, the purpose is to have concrete data on educators' current skills and determine the next steps. Then we can determine which Google certificates (Distance Learning for Educators, Digital Citizenship and Safety, Educator Level 1, and Educator Level 2) are most needed and which skills educators already feel comfortable with.
